One thing that pinches me more than anything else is how people spring for and spend on clothes and accessories so easily but a furniture piece, textile or house accent suddenly doesn’t fit the bill! The later may in-fact cost lesser in many cases.

Look at it with a more pragmatic matter-of-fact way, people are willing to take risks on their bodies more than they are for their home.” she says

And true that! People surely do invest more on being in vogue than they do to decorate their homes. But doesn’t your home speak of you just as much?! Well well……we aren’t going to discuss people or philosophies here, we belong to that side of the world where one tassel hanging from the cushioned chair is a treat to the eye and for who the rivets and  nails too need to be plated to match the detail of the intended mood. And before you think otherwise, the world I am talking about is the one where your home and what you come back to everyday  needs to break the mundane and yet fit in as much.

The glass people- KGPW |source|

I never really thought about my father’s business until recently. Growing up, being constantly surrounded by it never gave me an outsiders perspective of how interesting it really was!

I keep asking my workers, crafters, artists, this one question and often its just a greeting………. “Khush ho?” (Are you happy???) …….. the man/ woman smiles…….. surprised and shy most of the time, happy by the gesture itself sometimes and at other times back with a story in his/her life – the stories are the best! These guys have much to share and those smiles – content –  rather contagious and one of the reasons that I just love to chat up with them creators, the men/women who truly believe in their contributions to whatever big or little they do – they are happy and more than that – proud, something that I always have to remind myself off, strangely!

Ever thought about this – the people and businesses that a creative supports also supports them. It needs to co-exist like a demand and supply chart, its use needs to progress and develop not only in availability but in education and awareness as well and only then can an art form and its representative artistry stay alive. I feel elated that the digital world could never take away from this 2000 year old form of printing  – Screen Printing.

Roanna Fernandes- Writer. Illustrator

A writer and illustrator from Bombay and the girl behind jupiter skye. If I had to describe Roanna as a person in 3 words they would be C.U.T.E + F.R.I.E.N.D.L.Y + C.O.L.O.U.R.F.U.L  and this about her is perfectly depicted through most of her illustrations. Everytime I view her work it instantly reminds me of my precious childhood memories filled with an obsession for stickers!! Some of my favorite works by her are…

You can view her complete portfolio ‘here’ She has also recently launched the’ The Jupiter Skye Shop’ that showcases a variety of items made by her that are up for grabs! Ranging from beachie jewelry to greeting cards and ornaments to stickers!! (yaay!)

We asked Roanna:  what inspires her artistry? And what is especially inspiring her these days? And this is what she had to say ”Colours, objects, patterns…People! What they wear and/ or do…I note ideas down on my phone, make lists and work on things I am inspired by at the time. At the moment, I am besotted with the Grand Budapest Hotel. Its colours and typefaces, and costumes + sets.. the details are so fine.”

And For those of you who have not seen the film- it truly is a work of art and inspiring in so many ways; we absolutely agree with you on this one Roanna! 🙂
